I have written the list before in my quest to find my father's family,
the WALKERs, and I have learned two small details which may jog
someone's memory.
To recap, I am looking for the family of Charles Wilson Walker, b. Dec.
17, 1917 in Wabash Co., IL, m. Annabel Baker (of Mentone) August 21,
1948 in Wheaton, IL, d. March 19, 1958. Charles was born in IL but has
family roots in Kos. Co. Known siblings are Bill, Bob, Fritz and Jerry.
Charles' parents were Shelby Walker (no dates known) and Beulah Potts
(who later married Elmer Lowman and lived in Claypool) b. January 7,
1891, d. January 1976.
Some family members still live in Kos. Co., although I have not yet been
able to locate them.
New details: The family was from Sevastopol originally, and Shelby
worked for the railroad--doing what, I do not know.
Question: Is Sevastopol and/or the surrounding area a key location for
railroad workers? What railroad would we have been talking about in the
late 1800s or early 1900s? Shelby might not have made it into the
modern railroad retirement program, but I may eventually check their
records. Does anyone have any knowledge of local sources that might
help?
Thank you!
Pam Green
