Pam,
I have run into the question regarding Francis Marion a number of times.
However, I can only assume, that my gggrandfather Elder was named for the
famous Swamp Fox of Revoluntionary War and Walt Disney Fame. My Elders are
a mystery. My grandfather Lester was born in Claypool in 1882, and he died
one day after my 8th birthday. My mother (Dorothy Elder ) never talked
about her father's family, and her only surviving sister Irene was adopted
and she knows little of the Elders. So I cannot shed any insight on Francis
Marion Elder, except that he died in 1940.

I'm sorry that the name LIGHTCAP is unfamiliar to me. I just have to
comment on the name "Francis Marion," however! My family has two
"Francis Marions" in it, and "Marion" also appears as a first or
middle
name at least two other times. I know this refers to the "Swamp Fox" of
the Revolutionary War, but I'm intrigued that it was such a popular name
in the 1800s!
