I am organizing a project to transcribe the 1870 Kosciusko County, IN
census to post on the Kosciusko County USGenWeb site. I currently
have 9 volunteers and would like to get about 11 more. This census
is 600 pages long (40 lines per page). With 20 transcribers, each
would have about 30 pages to do.
What's involved: I will send each transcriber a printed copy of the
segment of the census to transcribe. Each transcriber will need to
have a spreadsheet available to load the census transcription
template. It doesn't matter if you have a Macintosh or Windows
system, either will work. Spreadsheets you can use include Microsoft
Excel (preferred), Lotus, Microsoft Works (as long as you can save in
spreadsheet format). Each printed page is a standard page size, 8.5
x 11, so I'd recommend a good magnifying glass. You will be
transcribing from the sometimes poor handwriting and miserable
spelling of the various US Marshalls that conducted the census.
