Hi David,
Well here is how you can see the language HTML. If you are on a site such as the
Kosciusko site (a simple one), on your browser there is a selection called something like
"View" and under that there is an option called "Source". Click on it
and you will see the page coded in HTML on your note pad. There is a way that reminders
and directions or whatever can be added and not show except in the HTML. You enclose
whatever thusly: <!-- This cannot be seen-->
If you look at the page about Eliza Hartsock, you will find in HTML the information about
her spouse a line that reads:
The census showed Isaac Hartsock as b.OH; his parents, both b.PA, were Samuel C. Hartsock
and Sarah Elder. Wife Eliza died in 1858 leaving a young family. In 1860 Isaac was rasing
his children alone but the 1870 census showed him as married to a new wife Jane (age 40)
in Dec 1869 (marriage record not found). By 1880 he was divorced and living with his two
unmarried sisters, Hannah <!--Snyder Hannah P - born August 16 1829 died July 10 1917 -
Adams-7-18-->and Jennie.<!--Hartsock Jane - died March 28 1893 aged 66 years 24 days
- Adams-7-17 (1827-1893)--></td>
The information about the two sisters isn't pertinent to the story and doesn't
show. But anyone who is interested enough to download the page, would also be interested
in the dates of the two sister and especially the fact that Hannah married John Snyder
late in life.
I also listed the dob from the Indiana birth index if it differed from the dob from the
SSDI. Or even two dates from a single death certificate. I have several death
certificates with a year which is different than the date in the newspaper -I use the
newspaper.
If you aren't intending to learn HTML you probably would find it a nuisance.
HTML is no great shakes as a language. I'm retired and just do it for fun. My
cousin's granddaughter does the Whitley ALHN and certainly wouldn't be called a
geek. She is a lovely young woman who is skilled in programing.

Janet,
Please expand on your HTML reference....I'm no computer geek but am
intrigued by your inference to hidden details that may be of value.

Eliza Hartsock's page will be changing constantly as new information comes
in. I'll be adding here and pruning there. And as always, there are
discrepancies among public records. If you find some PLEASE let me
know. I prefer a state to a month but if there is a date, I would like it
to be right. Even the SSDI is in error sometimes.

[And for those of you who code, variant dates and other information are
sometime hidden in the HTML.]
