I am seeking information for Fred W. Kibler my great grandfather. He was born May 1853 in
Oswego, Kosciusko, IN. It appears his parents were Philip Kibler and Margaret A. (maiden
possibly Derr? Duerr, Durr) Kibler, both born in PA with families from Wales (Welch).
While there are other Kibler families in IN during this time most were from VA.
However, in various census' located with (my) Fred Kibler state his father was from
Wales and also speaking Welch in one census. A 1910 census found with Margaret Kibler
living as a widowed boarder in Linn, MO, where she states she was born in PA and her
parents were also from Wales.
He and Margaret may have possibly had older son named Philip which would have been born
before my ggf Fred W. Kibler and a younger son Ezra W.. A census taken in June 1870 in
Wapello, Iowa shows 4 members Philip age 65, farmer, born PA; Margaret, age 58, born PA,
Fredrick, age 16, laborer; & Ezra W., age 14, at school.
While a July 1870 census Plain, Kosciusko, IN shows a Philip Kibler age 30, born in PA,
occupation boot and shoemaker. On the same page is a John Kibler, age 35 born in Ohio,
farmer. It is unknown if these Kibler's are related.
I am not certain these are the same individiuals, however Fred W. Kibler married a Melissa
Ellen Fisher of Mahaska, Agricola, IA. Mahaska is one county south of Wapello, so this is
a possibility.
•Fred and Melissa had the following children: William E. Kibler, born 1886 in Ottumwa,
Iowa; Julietta Kibler, birth date and place unknown; and Ethel May Kibler, born 1892
location unknown. Fred & Melissa later moved to E. St. Louis, ILL. Fred worked as a
railroad watchman in Ill.
•Julietta married Edward Burhmaster/Burhmeister of E. St. Louis, ILL and
had one child, my grandfather Clifton H. Burhmaster born Nov. 26, 1908 in
Lebanon, MO. They later moved to E. St. Louis, ILL.
•Julietta and Ethel May were in some early silent films and known as the Kibler Sisters.
Any information on the Kibler's from PA living in or around Oswego, Indiana and
relocating to Iowa would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Lori Dubay
