The following is a paraphrase of an article appearing in the Warsaw Times-Union Sat. July
3, 1954 Centennial Edition. Wilbur F. Maish, President and founder of
the Little Crow Milling Co., was born Oct. 7, 1860 to Jacob and Susan Maish. Jacob was a
carpenter and for many years operated a furniture store. Wilbur married Louise
Boss, Oct.20, 1885 in Warsaw. Louise was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Julius Boss. Dr.
Boss donated the land for Oakwood cemetery. Dr. and Mrs. Boss within a month of each other
in 1874 and Louise, age 12, now an orphan was taken into the household of Judge Frazer who
was a close friend of Dr. and Mrs.Boss. Mr. Maish was interested in the civic
progress of Warsaw and played an important role in the development of the parks and lakes
in the area. Dec.26,1896 the Maish Manufacturing Co. was formed.
In 1903, during the course of business the "Old Frame Mill" and equipment was
acquired, and !
was the beginning of the Little Crow Milling company. In the beginning it was a humble
business but soon grew from providing grains and flour to locas to producing all purpose
wheat flour under the brand names of Little Crow and Red Raven. In 1908 the manufacturing
and merchandising of a prepared pancake and buckwheat flour was introduced.
Wilbur F. Maish died Feb.12, 1938 of a heart attack at the age of 78 years.
