This message is for Patricia Berry,
The CLAY family is very well known in Stark County. In fact, they were one of the
very first settlers. My grandparents farm was on property that originally belonged to the
CLAY family. When my mom ( b 1916 ) was little they moved there. I don't know if they
CLAY family owned at that time or if it had passed into other hands but I do know that the
three story tall house had originally been a stagecoach stop and that the CLAY family had
built it. My grandfather razed the old building and built a new house on the property
around 1936. He used parts of the old house in some of the farm buildings. When my
grandmother died about ten years ago the farm was sold to a real estate developer. Before
he tore everything down my mom pointed out doors and such to a CLAY descendant who happily
retreived them to save for posterity. Isaac Clay is listed as being in Jackson Twp. by
1807. He was a member of St. Jacob Luthern Church (Mudbrook Church).
