Archibald Kirkendall's father was Henry Kirkendall, a native of Virginia. His mother,
Elizabeth had come from Pennsylvania. Arch's grandfather, Henry Kuykendall, Sr. was a
Revolutionary War "Patriot" in Hampshire County, VA. (This county is now a part
of West Virginia.) He did not serve as a soldier but is credited with being a Patriot
since he furnished significant goods and services to help the war effort. His descendants
are entitled to membership in the DAR and SAR. He died in Ohio in 1818.
Henry Jr. came to Ross County, OH about 1798. He changed the spelling from the old Dutch
Kuykendall to Kirkendall. He was married twice and had the following children: Isaac,
first elected sheriff of Kosciusko County, IN, Elizabeth, married in Ross County to
William Nolin, resided in Milford, IN; Abraham; Henry; Polly, married Jacob Blocker;
Peggy, m. James Thompson in Ross Co, OH; Kitty; Sarah; Jacob, b. 1804 d. before 1880,
lived on a farm near Leesburg, IN; Archibald; and Rebecca, m. John Stipp in Ross Co., OH.
Ross Co. is about 60 miles east of Cincinnati.
