Hi Marge ,
Thanks for calling attention to my mistake. Am I embarrassed about putting
bad info out on the list. I misspoke on the village.
David Snyder lived 2 miles nw of LARWILL (in Whitley), not Warsaw (in
Kosciusko). Should have checked my map again.I had measured two miles from
Larwill initially.
I found many obits for the David Snyder family in Columbia City
newspapers -but not in the Kosciusko list of obits. David Snyder obit also
said he was a native of PA (true -Cumberland Co. PA), moved to Ohio
(true -Richland Co. OH & in 1834 according to son Henry's bio) and moved to
Indiana in 1847 (false - he was listed with his brother Henry in Sandusky
Co. OH at the 1850 census, son Frank was born c.1853 in Ohio). The biography
of son Henry said they moved in 1852 (Ha!). Of course Henry's bio also said
his father died in 1873 whereas David died in the Oct 1872! David's obit
said the service was by Rev. Hugh Wells (who knows) and that David was
buried in Summit graveyard (body evidently moved to Pierceton at a later
date?).
If there was ever a cautionary note to take what you read in the newspapers
with a grain of salt, the documents involving this family say it all.
Can't complain since there was a death certificate for David's wife Leah
(Browneller) Snyder (1805-1885). Indiana death certificates were rather few
and far between.
Were there other Kosciusko newspapers not covered in the list? Around the
turn of the century extensive obits were very popular.
Looking for anyone related to this family.

Hi Janet,
Regarding the David Snyder farm. You mention that it is placed two
miles east of Warsaw -thus on the Kos. Whitley County line.
The Kosciusko County-Whitley County line is actually east of Pierceton
by about 1 1/2 miles. Pierceton is 6 miles east of Warsaw, so that makes
the county line about 7 1/2 miles east of Warsaw. This would place the farm
about half way between Warsaw and Pierceton.
Don't know if this is relevant or not, but thought you might like to
know more where the farm lay in relation to the county line.
