Garland Edgell asked about the DeVos photography gallery in Warsaw. From
the information that I've gathered so far, it appears that DeVos operated a
gallery in Warsaw from about 1887 until sometime between 1895 and 1898,
when he moved to South Bend. Here are the known dates that I have for Isaac
DeVos. I'm listing my information as a timeline, but there are gaps. If
anyone has additional dates or tips, I would be glad to hear from you:
Warsaw:
1887: R. G. Dun Collection, Harvard, Baker Business Library, v. 56, p. 476,
Kosciusko Co, Isaac De Vos, Warsaw, Photographer; 6-14-1887 Succeeds F. A.
Place here. He is a young man, came from Mich. [Frank A. Place was a
photograph in Warsaw from 1875-1887]
1888: 1888-89 Warsaw City Directory: Isaac DeVos, 38 S. Buffalo [also

1890: 1890 Polk's Indiana Gazetteer, p. 1207
1892: ST. LOUIS & CANADIAN PHOTOGRAPHER Mar. 1892, p. 117, Mr. I. DeVos,
Warsaw sends examples of cabinet photographs, charmingly beautiful.
Feb. 1892, p. 89, DeVos of Warsaw sends beautiful cabinet photographs, two
of which are of display frames, showing artistic arrangement, as well as
excellent work.

was from Ft. Wayne and had returned there by 1906. He committed suicide
in Ft. Wayne in 1915.]
Plymouth: [He either temporarily left Warsaw to work in Plymouth, ca.
1892-95, or he had a second, branch gallery there while he continued in
Warsaw.]

bound book, ca. 1900]: p. 63, photo by J. DeVos; p. 128, L. DeVos, South
Bend, an artist with camera or brush; always his share of prizes at the
State Convention.
Chicago:
1909 Bulletin of Photography, Isaak DeVos of Chicago promising to exhibit
at PAA [Photographers Association of America] mtg. in Rochester, NY.
