Here is a newspaper clipping that I have recently found. There is no date
written on the clipping, however, from the clipping we are able to determine
that the article probably appeared in the Warsaw newspaper shortly after
Sept. 6th, 1926. I have taken the liberty to make a LIST of names &
addresses so that it's easier to read.
FORMER RESIDENTS OF THIS COUNTY HOLD REUNION AT PARK IN POMONA, CAL.
by David Henry Clymer
One of the gala days for old Kosciusko county folks was held from
Genesha park, Pomona, Cal., Sept. 6, (Labor Day) when over 200 old time
residents of Kosciusko sat down to partake of a picnic dinner.
It has been the custom for a number of years to hold a picnic expressly
for those who have lived and previously identified themselves in business
activity in Kosciusko county, Indiana, and this year was no exception to the
good time that is always afforded those who attend.
The meeting was in charge of Judson Chandler, who in former years was
well known throughout the county, serving in many an official capacity.
His place will be filled by Hugh Kingery as chairman of the organization for
the ensuing year. Mr. Kingery will be remembered not so many years ago as
being identified with the mercantile business of the city of Warsaw before
coming to Alhambra, Cal., where he now resides.
Mrs. Mary Rigley-Hays, nee Mary Fisher, daughter of Stephen Fisher, late
of Packerton, Ind., who has served so efficiently as secretary and treasurer
of the organization for a number of years was re-elected to the same office.
It is the wish of the organization to hold the 1927 picnic at Genesha
park, as before, on Labor Day.
The 1926 picnic will go down in history as being one of the most
interesting meetings held in recent years by the society. Well filled
baskets of good things to eat, to which the ex-Hoosier wife hold a
pre-eminent place was again demonstrated as chicken in abundance graced the
tables and one lady dropped the remark that she could never get out of the
gold old Indiana habit of providing chicken for picnic occasions.
