The "Bad Trans" virus DOES NOT go through the mailing lists. This virus replys
to unread email in outlook in boxes.
When you send a message to a mailing list the list management software sends your message
on to all the list subscribers. If one of them has the virus their computer may respond
to your message and send you the virus. This message is DIRECT, not through the mailing
list. The person with the infected computer usually does NOT know
they have the virus or are sending it on.
This virus is new. It was only discovered about April 11th, so unless you have the latest
virus data in your antivirus program it can not find this virus.
The best way to avoid this virus is DO NOT OPEN ANY attachment, unless you have contacted
the sender and confirmed they are sending an attachment that contains information you
requested.
Several of the recent virus programs have used similar techniques to spread. The
"hybris" virus has been around for several months and I see copies of it almost
every day coming into my ISP systems. It also uses an attachment and is sent without the
sender's knowledge. This one is harder to track down because it always comes from
"hahaha(a)sexyfun.com" and not from the sender's email address.
