Was going through some old newspapers last night and found this:
Warsaw Daily Times
June 5, 1947 page 4, column "Around Our Town & County"
Barbee History
Martha Kuhn Baker send in this interesting note on a group of OUR COUNTY
lakes: "The Barbee Lakes, located two and one-half miles southwest of North
Webster, were named for my mother, Barbara Kuhn. Kuhn's Landing on the
Barbees was named for my dad, Isaac Kuhn. For many years the lakes went by
the name of Barbara lakes. The Barbara was later changed to Barbee. I have
had occasion to sign documents attesting the Barbara and Barbee lakes to be
one and the same before making a sale of lake property. I am sending you
pictures of my parents which I hope to see in the Warsaw Times & Union."
Many thanks, Mrs. Baker. We reproduce the photo of your mother here.
Unfortunately , the clipping showing your father preparing to go fishing at
the age of 96 is not such that a photo-engraving can be made from it
satisfactorily."
I have no way of knowing how credible this story is -- other than it was
one
that apparently the editor of Warsaw paper, found interesting enough to
print.
