Hi Kathleen & list,
Hope springs eternal .... or something like that!
Marge Nye's transcription of the Applications book is actually from records
that were kept in the Health Department and are now part of the collection
of public records at the museum library & archives.
The two entries (one for each of the persons) in Marge's book read like
this:
Peterson, Sarah (40) ... Jacob (father's name); Ewv (may be a typo)
Ritter (mother's name); Chas Westen (groom's name)
date of marriage 5-8-86
Weston, Chas. H. (48) Chas (father's name); Cambell (mother's LAST ?
name ); Sarah Peterson (bride's name)
date of marriage 5-8-86
We (genealogy section ) has always been so glad that we had these records --
as it gave us most PARENTS names from 1881 to 1905 (when the county records
started recording parent's names). The gals at the court house never seem
to remember that we have them...and so I don't know how many people we MISS
helping because they don't remember to tell them about our resources.
I can get you a copy of the record... send me your address (privately, of
course) ...and I will see that you get a copy.
Hope this helps a little
marge
P.S. (Don't think these records give date of birth, sorry. They only give
AGE at time of marriage -that's what the numbers are that follow the names.)

Subject: [INKOSCIU] Application for Marriage License-1886-Western/Peterson
| I am trying to obtain information on the wife of my Great Grandfather.
| Sarah Peterson of Webster, Indiana married Charles H. Western in
| Kosciusko County on May 8, 1886. They move to Wisconsin, have two
| children by 1888, and that is the last we hear of poor Sarah. (My great
| grandfather, on the other hand, shows up in the upper peninsula of
| Michigan some time later with a new wife- but we will get to that
| later.)
| I obtained the Certificate of Marriage from Kosciusko County Clerk, and
| this document confirmed the names and date of marriage for me, but they
| Kosciusko County does NOT have copies of Applications for Marriage
| Licenses prior to 1905. (The clerk there actually sighed when I called
| her to confirm this- as though she has to answer this question alot!)
| Tonight, I viewed the microfilmed records from the LDS Family History
| Center, but they also copied only the marriage certificates.
| The only other possible source I can see is that The Kosciusko County
| Genealogical society sells a book, (Applications for Marriage Nov.
| 1881-April 1892. Softbound, 152 pages. $20.00+3.00.), but before I send
| away for it, I would like to know that what I need is really in it. I
| would gladly pay the money for just a copy of their applications for
| marriage license. I still do not have their parents' names, or their
| dates of birth, and I am kind of stuck in the mud here until I can get
| them.
| Thanks for taking the time to read this. I figured that this E-mail
| group was the most expert group of people to answer this question
| quickly.
