I don't think that we would have records that early on school teachers.
I believe the earliest two series of "reports" that we have are
Annual Reports of the Trustees -- That's a township record, so, again, some
townships were very good about turning in the reports, some kept them in
their offices. Those list teachers with their salaries, as it was the
trustee who paid them. It gives the number of the district (within the
township) and the date paid. I THINK those only go back to the late
1860's -- and only for some of the townships. (Put another way, some of the
twps are "missing".)
The other "listing" of teachers -- were little tiny booklets, prepared
at the COUNTY level that listed the names of the teachers in each township,
and usually the trustees and the other school officials - principals and in
some cases the township school boards. These also give the level at which
the teacher was working -- primary, "intermediate" and secondary. Those
little booklets start in in 1894-95 (school year) and go through the 1960's
when consolidation took place.
Hope this helps!

| Dear Marge, Thanks for the incite to School records.
| & Listers,
| Would there be any records of scholl teachers in the late 1850's, early
| 60's. I have several male relatives listed in the census as school
teachers
| and would like to pursue that info. Thanks in advance.
