This is from a hint from another e-mail list that I would like to share with
this list. I downloaded the program, followed the brief directions as to
how to add it to my Windows Start-up menu and it works great! (For those of
you who worked in DOS, it will look like an old hat!) It's Share-ware --
and cheap! The question on the other list asked about an on-line TOWNSHIP
map site. One of the other users recommended this.
City/County Finder II
Download CCF210.EXE (1.7M - self-extracting file decompresses to 3M)
Description: DOS, ShareWare
CCFINDER II is a DOS program but is well-behaved in a Windows
environment. It will help you find the location of any stored
city/town/community (populated place), county, or geographic location in the
United States. It can also search for all cities in a given county, all
counties in a given state, and do a proximity search listing all other
cities within X miles (from 2 to 99) of a designated city or set of
coordinates. Searches can be based on complete names, "sounds like" names,
or partial names. You'll always find the latest version right here 'cause I
wrote it.
Data is from the GNIS data set and includes the entire continental U.S.
plus Alaska and Hawaii.
