Linda---
The only way to be sure is to "test" one of our ancestors from Kosciusko
County against the files at
Ancestry.com.
I have a handful of people in my family tree who lived in Kosciusko Co. in
1917-18. I ran the search this evening, but I learned instead that they were
at the time living in next-door Fulton County---small help for you! (for
Kosiusko Co. residents, my family came from Beaverdam, right on the border)
We need to prevail upon the collective resources of this mailing list.
Does anybody here have a male ancestor, born between 1875 and 1900 in
Kosiusko Co., who could help Linda?
The 1917 Draft Registration archives are very interesting. We think of Draft
records today as simply being those males who were 18 at the time of
registration, but for World War One, the government was ready to "call" people
who
were born as eary as 1874 (I know this from research on other relatives)---who
would have been 43 in 1917!
So please, anybody out there with a male ancestor born during this period
should check.
For myself, I have found the Draft registration an incredible resource for
birth dates for quite a few members of my family tree. It's also a proof that
they lived in that place at that time. SSDI, the Social Security Death
Index, more often than not, does not give accurate birth dates.
Best of luck, Linda---I wish I had some more Kosciusko Co. ancestors to
"test" the Draft database.
