Seeking information on the William CARDINAL family of Knox County.
Accordinat to the 1900 Census Johnson Twp., Knox County, Indiana,
William Cardinal, born in 1867, married Nannie?, born in 1869,
somewhere around 1854. They had four children:
Cardinal, Georgie H. - b. Aug. 1889 in Indiana
Cardinal, Goldie - b. Sept. 1894 in Indiana
Cardinal, Stacy M. - b. Apr. 1897 in Indiana
Cardinal, Ethel C.? - b. Apr. 1900 in Indiana
Stacy was my great-grandmother. She is listed in 1910 census as an
orphan living with the Combs family in Wabash Co., IL. I think I
found George, age 20 working as a farm hand in Knox Co., Indiana, and
Ethel as a "boarder," age 10, living with a widowed woman and
another young woman (age 23) - also in Knox Co, in same census.
I have found Stacy in other census records, and her birthplace is
always listed as Indiana. However, in her funeral program it says she
was born in Mt. Carmel, IL (where she was at time of 1910 census).
Could be an error, but I would like to verify her birthplace if
possible. Also would like to know the story behind why the children
were orphaned. Family lore precludes that perhaps their mother died
and their father was not able to take care of them. Can anyone fill
in some blanks?
Thanks,
Jessica
