I am looking for any info at all on the Pelkey and McIntosh families. I
found Lowry Pelkey in the 1820 census in Knox Co., but no other info.
He was a free Black man back then. I found Lewis Pelkey in the 1840
census of Knox Co. living next door to Lydia McIntosh. Both families
were free Blacks. The only other info I have been able to find in Knox
Co. was a marriage record for Caroline Mackintosh to Lewis Pelkey in
1837 in Knox Co. After 1840 I cant find any info on Lewis Pelkey and
Caroline then shows up in 1850 in Tippecanoe Co., but then falls off the
face of the earth. Were there any registration records of Blacks in
Knox Co. as there were in other counties? Why would land owning families
leave an area? Historically does anyone know of any incidents that would
have driven these families out of the county? Thanks for any help.
