I'm hoping someone can provide me with some assistance here or point me in
the right direction. Where would I find info on the claims filed under the
Act of Congress of August 29, 1788 and the land granted to those that filed
the claims? According to a book "Early Illinois - Clark's Conquest of The
Illinois", Fergus Printing Co. 1890, Ann Henry (widow of Moses Henry) of
Post Vincennes filed a claim under the Aug. 29, 1788 Act of Congress,
saying, she was the "head of household at Vincennes on or before 1783" and
being the widow of said Moses Henry, resident of Post Vincennes. who
previously held property granted to him under the French and also under
British rule and as he had assigned some of that land, i.e., 136.10 acres,
to Luke Decker, claims she and her heirs should be granted some concession
of land as the old ownership documents were no longer recognized or
acknowledge. Subsequent to her claim, and due to Moses's support of the
United States (Rev. War Soldier - Indian Agent), Ann Henry and her children,
as heirs of Moses Henry, were granted a lot in Vincennes 78 Feet X 25
Toises. I would like to know where I can find the early (U.S.) land
patents/grants (whatever they were) for the Post Vincennes property granted
to individuals that had resided there for some time. Anything anyone can
do to point me in the right direction will certainly be appreciated. Thank
you.
