The Knox County Public Library's McGrady/Brockman House is the repository for
four local genealogy collections. Housed in the building are the library's
Historical Collection, the genealogy collection of the Byron R. Lewis Historical
Library, the Francis Vigo Chapter DAR library, and the records from the Knox
County Records Library. The Knox County Public Library's regional
history/genealogy center in the former Brockman Funeral Home at 614 N. 7th St. (corner of
7th and Hart Sts. Across from the library), opened to the public on March 18,
2002. McGrady-Brockman House was chosen as the name of the new facility,
recognizing Charles P. McGrady, who built the house in 1859, and the Brockman
family, who owned the building for over 60 years. The library became the seventh
owner of this historic property in 2002.
