I am researching my family name: Enmeier. My grandfather was an only son
born in Westphalia, Indiana. His father's burial stone is engraved as
Friedrich N.Meier. The original German surname may have been Nettingsmeier.
That is the mystery.
In random searches I have seen the exact spelling of Enmeier on a few
German sites written without a capital letter after what I believe is
person's last name . For example, Lind enmeier, Birk enmeier, Beat Burg
enmeier. Most of these have been on academic sites as well. Could anyone
explain to me what that means?
Also, I believe I found my great grandfather's name in the Index to Death
Records for Knox County 1882-1920 as Frederick Enmire. The book that is
referenced for the record is H-26 page 108 which indicates the County
Health Office, Edwardsport, Indiana. Could anyone tell me how I could get a
copy of this record?
Any leads on this surname or various spellings of it are greatly
appreciated.
