Greetings all...
I am new to this list and am trying to find info on my paternal
gr-grandfather and family:
Jens JACOBSEN (spelling variations: JAKOBSEN, JACOBSON)
Jens was born abt 1864 in Germany (now Denmark) and emigrated from Denmark
in 1887 to the US, residing in Chicago IL. He was married in Chicago to a
Sofia Christensen, March 1888. He is enumerated in Chicago for the 1900
census, residing with his wife, Sofia, and five children. There are no
census records for his family for 1910. His wife Sofia died in 1918 and is
buried in Chicago. Jens and 3 of his sons are again enumerated in Chicago
for the 1920 census.
I have some evidence that Jens was a "farmer" in the mid-1920s in Knox Co.,
Indiana. My father remembers visiting when he was very young, but only
remembers a farmhouse and a river. He says that gr-grandfather owned the
land because he remembers a big arguement between brothers over the land
after Jens' death.
Jens died in 1934 at the home of his daughter in Chicago. On his death
certificate, completed by one of his sons, a "surviving widow" named Olive
is listed. Jens is buried with his wife Sofia and 2 of their daughters in
Chicago.
Children include:
Kate /Margaret, b. 1888 Dec.
(one unknown child, b. ?)
William, b. 1892 Dec.
(one unknown child, b. ?)
Nellie, b. 1895 May
George, b. 1897 Sep.
Frank / Harry, b. 1900 Feb.
(one unknown child, b. ?)
Rolf / Ralph, b. 1906 Oct. <my grandfather>
My father and I are curious about "Olive" and the farm. My dad's family
wasn't close (no rocket science there!) I know this is one of those HUGE
needle-in-the-haystacks, believe me: this family has been my brick wall
since I started doing genealogy research in 1997! ANY help or info is
greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time;
