Greetings,
As a new member of the list, I'm seeking information concerning the early
settlers of Knox Co. IN (on Illinois Territory), specifically, the Guthrie
surname in the IN State census, 1807 as found in the
Ancestry.com database,
Males Over 21 Years IN 1807 State Census Index
1807 GUTRY MATHEW Knox County IN page 012 IN244627
1807 GUTRY MATHEW Knox County IN 016 Males IN244862
1807 GUTRY SHADRACH Knox County IN 012 Males IN244626
1807 GUTRY SHADRICK Knox County IN 016 IN244861
This clan of Guthries REALLY got around.......
Shadrach Guthrie was said to have been born in 1772, Spartanburg SC
his son William E. Guthrie, b. 1809 (Illinois Territory or Indiana)
his son Allen Guthrie b. 1811 KY
Other children: Orin, Owen, John, Shadrack Jr. "Lee Shade", William E.,
Allen, Nancy, Alhmira, Maragret, Melinda by first wife, Melinda
Badley/Bodley, and James H. and Robert J. by second wife Rue Mazy.
The Guthrie Clan were in extreme W. KY/TN by the mid to late 1820s,
purchasing land in the Jackson Purchase area of Graves Co. KY (also appeared
in Hardeman, Henry Co. TN, and possibly Christian, Nelson, Calloway,
Fulton,Trigg Co.s in KY) By 1840 they were once again on the move to
Northern MS, (Lafayette, Pontotoc, Calhoun, Yalaboosha, Coahoma Cos.) and,
on the TX (Bell, Salado, Gonzales, Lavaca, etc counties).
Any information about SW Indiana early history and settlers would be
appreciated.
Best wishes,
Pam Ingle
