Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I have pictures of nearly all the tombstones and I wrote out the wording in a Word document if anyone is interested in Beal Cemetery in Decker, Indiana (Knox County). My dad and I completed this project a couple of summers ago.
Yes, all those names ring bells. Strange how it created a little activity
for a change. So often you never receive any clues.
It was really not what I expected on that tour. I thought it
would be more riding instead of walking..Course, I'm sure my age had
something to do with it. My ankles & hips ached when I put my feet down.
Could have been lack
of good circulation as well. Needless to say, I will not go on any more
tours like that. A lot of places it would have been difficult to use a wheel
chair. Couldn't ask my sister to wheel me. She is seventy and has already
had two strokes. I feel myself lucky in that respect that it was my first
stroke. We have a black lady ninety nine years old
and very active. Her son & wife are taking her on a cruise for
Thanksgiving. I think I will stick to cruises the next time around.
Did you say that you had a connection to Westfall &
anotherone that I have forgotten the name already! ha.
I think memorary may be my first stroke loss.
I had a sonagram of my neck thursday. I had an MRI of my head, neck, stomach
& leg areas & a sonagram of the left leg while in the hospital. I will not
get the results of the neck test until thursday a week. So far they have not
found anything that might have caused the stroke.
There was another lady that I used to correspond with reference McKinleys
from oregon or washington state. Do you recall who that might have been?
This is all for tonight. Have to get my rest & zssss.

Hi Judy! My name is Helen Benham and Maria Alton was my Great-Great- Great
Grandmother. She married John Benham in Sep. 1830 and died before 1835 ( he
remarried in Feb 1835 which is were I get my time line). I estimate that she
was born about 1810 in Knox County. That's all I know at the moment. If you
have any other information I would really appreciate it.
Thank
you,
Helen
Benham

I think it was me from Washington as I have old snail mail from you.
The Westfall that I have Betty is only through Mary Alton's marriage to John
Westfall and their one daughter Parmelia. My line is through Mary's 2nd
husband George Stipes.
My husband is a real walker, but he slows down a bit for me. We spent 6
weeks last fall touring Spain, Portugal and parts of France and I managed to
walk to the top of Le Mont St. Michel, which was about 500 plus stairs,
don't remember, but I did count them and rested several times.

Helen,
I have two Maria Alton's, but both would be too young. Maria "Polly" b.
1832 and a Maria Alton b. c. 1844 who married Riley VanKirk.
If you find out who her father is, maybe I could connect her to the ones I
have. Sorry I couldn't help.

PS to my last e-mail. Forgot to list my Alton.
Celia Burrus's mother Sapcelia Stipes was the daughter of George Stipes,
1778, VA and died 1854 Palmyra, Knox, IN and Mary Alton 1794 PA - pre. 1833
Knox Co., IN. Mary was the daughter of John Allton Alton and Catherine
Adams.
Judie Clark
PS I have pictures of tombstones from the Alton Cemetery for Celia Burress
Alton, John A. Burress, John Alton (Rev. War stone) John Wesley Alton,
Joseph A. Alton, Margaret & Samuel Alton, Monroe and Margaret Alton,
and William H. and Martha Alton. Would be happy to e-mail copies to anyone
interested.
Also have picture of stones in McKinley Cemetery (now located in the middle
of a cornfield), all the stones left in the Gilmour Cemetery (located on a
hill in the middle of a coal mine), and Barrows stones in Bruceville
Cemetery.
What Burrus line are you from? I have a Peter Burris who married a Nancy Ann
Greenwood Godwin.

Dear Madaline,
Do you have the parents or some relatives name that connect with these two
people so I can see if I have a connection. I have Abraham Westfall who

J. Clark, is your family a Knox County family and is Clark the family
name? I've been researching Clarks from Knox for years. The family is an
AA/Native American family. E

Re: [INKNOX] Bicknell Cemetery
I do not know about all of the Bicknell Cemeteries, but on a trip there 18
months ago took pictures of the McKinley Cemetery (Only 3 stones-1 with
several names on it) and also of every stone in the Gilmore Cemetery
located in a mining area. I would be glad to pass on pictures to anyone
who has someone buried in those cemeteries.

County and their identifying names? http://www.findagrave.com has 5
cemeteries listed in Knox County named Bicknell and I wanted to know if
these were all separate or just mislabeled and duplicated.

I can let them know to combine them. Hoping to figure out the puzzle. I
have an obit for Bicknell Memorial Gardens and wanted to put it in the
right one if it matters.
