I have been going through an older notebook where I have a copy of the
certificate of death for my great grandfather John Waughtel who died May
20, 1932 and it states place of burial or removal as "Scipio, Ind.".
Along with this copy is also a copy of a letter written to a cousin of mine
in which it states that "John Waughtel has Lot 86 Block A (or H) and that
it is a large lot holding at least 4 graves. Indicates also one grave is
of Kate Waughtel (his 2d wife). I have never been able to find where John,
himself, is buried and never have been able to find the gravesite of his
first wife (my great grandmother Eliza Ann Keith Waughtel). She died in
Indianapolis & her hospital records indicated that James Waughtel (next of
kin) would come up and take the body, but then also it states she was
buried "on the grounds" - this being the County Insane Hospital. I feel,
after going through the notebook today that possibly she may be "one of the
four" and John being one also. I have been in contact with many a Keith
back there and so many have never heard of her - whether she was
"dis-owned" for marrying "the no-good John Waughtel" or she having
died so
young (33/35) no one remembers her. The hospital records indicate she was
a mother of 7 children, the youngest being still a baby. This letter that
I have a copy of was dated 1985 - maybe, just maybe, something has been
found on the other burials of this Lot belonging to John Waughtel. Is
there anyone who may be able to help me solve this long ago mystery?
