I am trying to find any information you may have where it is passed down in
the family that your ancestors from the area were involved in anti-slavery
practices prior to the Civil War. That includes mentions in obituaries or
letters of anything like being members of the Liberty, Free Soil or
Republican parties , helping in any way with the activities of the abolitionists.
Because of the danger involved in what they were doing those who were
involved in the underground railroad did not exactly make what they were doing
common knowledge. I am trying to help Eleutherian College in Lancaster
document families involved especially those who might have helped in the
underground railroad in the area. If we can get lists of family names where
mention is made in old family records of such activity they will research and
try to verify it. Even if you just were told an ancestor was involved let me
know your area surnames at _Kfurballkell(a)aol.com_
(mailto:Kfurballkell@aol.com) and I will pass them on. You can also contact the College
at
_eleutherian(a)eleutherian.us_ (mailto:eleutherian@eleutherian.us) or (812)
273-9434
Thank You for your help you never know if your family might be a missing
link in a record of the underground railroad.
