I have come across a note sent to me circa 1965-1979 from the Washington
County Historical Society in which it states it came from information
compiled by Miss Lulie Davis (now late Miss Lulie) as follows:
Frederick Waughtel was released from Poll Tax in 1827. Then the
Commissioners record goes on to say also a release from tax in 2 horses for
Frederick Waughtel for 1827 who it appears was insolvent and should have
been so returned at that time.
In same Commissioners Book -- James Waughtel fined $1.00 for affray with
Granvilee C. Alexander (there must have been a knock-down and drag-out that
day in old Polk Twp.) There are about a dozen $1.00 fines for "assault" or
"affray" and the names are common to Polk and Franklin Twp's.
Then on May 2, 1836 Edmund Turner, Constable, was re*u*mbursed for
conveying Frederick Waughtel to the asylum. (the county had a Poor Asylum
at that time).
I am looking for anything on Frederick Waughtel (or Waughtell). His first
wife Patsy Knot/ts died prior to December 1828 as he married a Susannah
Boatman that month/year. If he was sent to the Poor Asylum in 1836, what
happened to the wife and his younger children from the marital union to
Patsy? I have knowledge of his son James (married Nancy Keil) and they
being my great great grandparents, Abraham (died unmarried/was in Mexican
War), his daughter Jane married (1) Enoch Stark 1838 (2) John Summa 1840,
and I do have both marriage records. Still to be found is another son born
before 1820 and another daughter born before 1820 also.
Any help will be most gratefully appreciated.
