Hi Pam:
Well here goes a big letter, I hope to be able to keep track of where I am at and with
whom. I received a query from Jerri McCoy about the Hulsizer connection to our Phillips
line. Then within a day or two I received a query from Jeri Farrar about Alvarian. Now I
don't get a lot inquires often but I sort of got mixed up for awhile sorting out both
Jeri and Jerri. I hope to keep you clear in my mind, wish me luck!
I am pretty sure the Alvarian I located at the library on the census in 1900 is the
right one. He is in Gove County, Kansas, but not there in 1910? Did they die? Jeri, do you
know where they died or when? If they did then I will try and find an obituary so it might
tell us more about them and if this is the right one.
On the 1900 census it say's he (Alvarian) was 52 and born in April 1848, and had
been married for 30 years to Elizabeth. He stated he was born in Indiana as was she.
Although he said his father was born in Ky. we don't think this right, even though he
(Media A. ) lived in Ky. for a short while he was born in NC.
Now I refer to the book that John Phillips of Cabin John, MD wrote and had copyrighted
in 1986, John states about Alvarian,
Alvarian or Alvain Phillips was born about 1848, judging by the 1850 census. Merle
Burns says he went to Kansas as a bachelor, married a woman there and had about six
children.
The 1880 Soundex of Grant township of Sedwick County, Kansas, shows: Alvarian
Phillips, 32, Ind., Ky., Ind.: Elizabeth, 26, same above; Charles F. 8, Missouri: Dora, 6,
Ind.: Pearl, 4, Ind; Alonzo, 2, Kansas; and Trella, born in March 1880. The other places
of birth for this much-traveled family were all "Indiana" (Media, Philomen Sr.)
Now Jeri, this has to be our family, I would think, don't you?
Maybe you can fill us in going forward! (I hope) If you would like a copy of this book I
will be glad to send you one. I got it from the LDS library off of their microfilm. This
Mr. John Phillips did a great job of research on the Phillips name in the 1970s and 1980s.
We have been in touch with him as he is now retired and lives in Ga.
I would think the key is finding out where Alvarian and Elizabeth are buried so we
might find and obituary for any clarification it might give.
Hope to hear from you soon!
