June,
You can order the minutes of the first records of the Bear Creek Baptist
Church from an LDS Family History Center. They've got it on microfilm, which
I've seen (and I think they also have a transcribed version on microfiche).
Cost is about $3.00. The only trouble is, you can only view the microfilm at a
family history center, you can't take it with you, although you can make
copies. Because they order it in from the main LDS family history center in
Utah, they only have it for a month, but you can renew it if you need it longer.
The LDS Church has an online index to their resources at
_http://www.familysearch.org_ (
http://www.familysearch.org) . You do not have to be a
member
of the LDS church to use a family history center. You should be able to find
out from the web site where the nearest family history center is to you.
The document you want is called "Church Records, 1828-1929, Bear Creek
Regular Baptist Chuch (Jennings County, Indiana). Here's the online description:
"Bare Creeke [sic] Baptist Church is located at intersection of Jennings,
Bartholomew, and Decatur counties. It was founded in 1828 and is still in
existence." It is item 2 on reel #1451839.

Is there any way of getting records of the Old Bear Creek Baptist
Church. My 6th greatgrandfather (Caleb Moncrief) was a preacher there
and he should be buried in the cemetery. I hope someone can tell me, or
any records of the Moncrief family.
Thank you.
