Subject: [INJENNIN] Huckleberry in Jennings County
List message:
Interested in your Huckleberry line. I have a Neal that married into the
Huckleberry line.

I show a Maria Jane Neal (daughter of William and Mary Price Neal)
marrying Nathaniel Huckleberry in Jennings Co. 1850. They had at least six
children, plus at least three others who died in infancy. Nathaniel was
born
in Maryland in 1802 and died in Boone Co. IN in 1881. Maria was born
in
Jennings Co. in 1829 and died in Boone Co. IN in Carmel, Hendricks Co. IN.
Her name may have been Mariah.
Nathaniel was the son of Jacob Huckleberry and wife Polly. Jacob was
the son
of George H. Huckleberry and Rosanna Wise and spent much of his life in
the
Charlestown, Clark Co. IN area. He appears in a 1907 Indiana census,
living
on 100 acres of his father's original tract in Clark Co. There
are lots of
Huckleberry's in Clark Co. Wife Polly may be the Polly buried in the
disintegrating Meloy Cemetery in Charlestown township there; if so, she
lived
from 1780 to 1805.
George Huckleberry was sort of the founder of the Huckleberry clan
that
settled in Clark Co. IN. Rosanna was the first of his three wives and
died
in
KY. George then married Barbara Pickenpaugh. Originally from PA,
(parents
from Germany) George moved from the Uniontown, PA to Abbots Station, KY,
in
about 1787, and then on to Clark Co. Indiana about 1796. He appears
in the
1820 census there.
Finally George had another son, David who married Sally Heath. In turn
their son Silas David Huckleberry ended up in Jennings Co. in 1847 where
he
was a farmer, politician and sheriff for a period. He married Lettice
Prather
in Sept. 1834. He was a Captain in the 6th IN and recruited Jennings
Co.
for
that unit during the War. He died there in 1870 and his wife in
1890,
location uncertain. They had six known children.
Hope this helps.
