Peter Loring Marlett was my grandfather, with whom I was very close for many years. My
father was Deotis Loring Marlett, born 4-19-11 in Indianapolis, died in LA County,
1-4-00.
I don't know about Peter's parents, except that I am told by others in our family
that they died while Peter was still young, and that he was raised by another family.
Peter was an auto mechanic, whose career included a number of years on racing crews at the
Indy 500. They made a pass at living out in Oregon around 1928, but then returned to
Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I think he and Edna lived there until about 1947, when they moved
to Washington State (built and operated a motel for about 15 years). Peter tought me to
drive, and to shoot, during visits to their place when I was a teenager.
Then moved to Portland for a few years (Edna's sister lived in Portland), and then on
to Alhambra, CA around 1960. I had just moved back from Air Force duty, and my wife and I
became fairly close to them. My wife especially appreciated Peter's great sense of
humor. In California, my uncle Orville (who is still living in Orange County) faithfully
attended to his parents (weekly visits, without fail). My parents (Loring and Ruth) and
another uncle (Howard) also lived in the LA area. My third uncle on this side was Nevin
(who is still living, in New Mexico).
Sorry to ramble on, and with so little on your direct question. I'll put this out to
others who are interested in family history and see if they can provide bettern info for
you..
How does all of this connect for you? Do you have any background on Edna Grace Lombard,
my grandmother? I knew her father (Deotis Lombard), who died in Portland in 1947), but
was interested in things other than family history at that time.
