Hello,
I'm new to this particular list but not to genealogy. I am following a lead
that my great great grandparents, William Jones and Nancy (Lightfoot), were in
Jennings County, Indiana for the 1850 federal census.
While I was born and raised in Grant County, Indiana, I now live near
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In a couple of weeks I will be traveling back to Indiana
and am considering a day trip to Jennings County to pursue this lead.
Can anyone on the list tell me of the genealogy resources available in
Jennings County? Is there a public library in either Vernon or North Vernon with
good genealogy sources? Did the Jennings County Courthouse burn down anytime
during the 19th century, destroying all records? Is there a Jennings County
Historical Society or Genealogical Society and, if so, do you have the name of a
contact person that you can share?
I will not have a lot of time, perhaps one day, to spend in Jennings County.
I'd like for my time to be as productive as possible.
Thanks to everyone on the list who can help me. If you prefer, you may reply
to me, instead of the entire list, at LDEAA(a)aol.com.
