Dear Marilyn,
I believe that Rebecaa Ruth Graves is either the daughter of Eliphalet
Graves.. This is all conjecture and I have no proof connecting Rebecca
Ruth to him.
In 1820
Eliphalet is in Anderson, Hamilton County, OH. This is the county and
state where an online record state that his son Stephen S. Graves was born.
I note that your Rebecca Ruth was also born in Ohio.
In 1830 Eliphalet shows the following:
1830 indiana
Males:
1 under five (Jonathan)
2 5-10 (Uriah and Stephen S.)
- - -
1 of 30 and under 40
Females:
1 under 5
2 5-10
1 30-40
Only daughter Esther is shown in the 1850 census. So there are 2
daughters unaccounted for and the age ranges make for the possibility that
your Rebecca Ruth is one of them
We know from the 1850 census of Jennings county that Eliphalet and wife
Hannah had the following children, not listing 2 other daughters (see
above):
Jonathan Graves 1829 IN
Esther 1836 IN
Uriah 1837 IN
Stephen S. 1827 OH
Unfortunately I don't have any other evidence than this.
I believe that Eliphalet is brother to Jedidiah Graves whom I conjecture
was living with their faither Benjamin in the 1830 census: It's pretty
clear that a younger man and woman and children are in the household. In
1840 Benjamin has died and you find Jedidiah listed.
In the Coffee Creek Baptist Church records it says:
Brother Benjamin GRAVES departed this life September 1836.

In the Jennings County Probate Record Book B 1829 on page 322 it shows
Jedidiah Graves as the executor of the will of Benjamin Graves, with Andrew
Wilson and Eliphalet W. Graves as his securities. This of course is not
the proof you seek but if Rebecca proves to be Eliphalet's daughter this
will help you go another generation back. Also, notice the Andrew Wilson
connection.
-------------------
Eliphalet Graves was born ca 1792 at New York. Eliphalet married Hannah
Carpenter. Hannah Carpenter was born September 6, 1796 in New York. She died
April 19, 1863 and is buried in the Keith Cemetery, Marion township,
Jennings County, Indiana.
Notice too that Jedidiah Graves has what is probably his mother Abigail
with him in 1850 she being 76 and born in New York.
Again, I'm sorry that I can't be of more help.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Loppnow
Topeka KS
