Richard, I do not know if you have an answer on Butlerville but I went there a few times.
My gggrandfather was a Baptist minister in several churches in the area but in the end
settled in Butlerville and preached there. The church is still there. I have pictures of
him in front of the steeple. It is very small. It is split with the highway and I guess I
would describe it like any town I see on the back roads in Missouri or Illinois. Lots of
trees.
Hope you have your answer. I hope you can visit it some day. My gggrandfather, James
Monroe Swarthout, also had a hardware store there at one time in the late 1800's and
early 1900's. So I would say it was a little busier than it is now.
