I just discovered that my great-grandfather's brother came to the US with him in 1861.
The family story goes that he served in the Civil War, coming back to Jennings Co
afterward. Supposedly he died in an accident about 1867 ( this is just a guesstimate).
His name was Jacob Huber. He might have been know by John or Gene (listed as Jean in
Germans to America). Last name was Huber, but could also have been Hoover or Houver or
Houwer. His mother is buried in the cemetery at St Joseph Catholic Church at Four
Corners. There are three other graves there, but they are unmarked. Is there anyone who
has the opportunity or resource to look up Civil War soldiers from Jennings Co? Or has
access to death records about this period of time? I merely based his age and then
figured his death based on family story. You know how that usually turns out!!
If anyone could help me, I would be most grateful. Sorry that I do not have more info to
give on him. Any clue would be more than I have now! Thanks. Carlene
