Don,
I can understand your frustration to have only received the same info
that you had originally posted.
I do hope that you have a bit of a warm feeling in your tummy that, even
though RootsWeb no longer exists as a separate entity, your contribution
is now available to many more people that were tuned into RootsWeb.
Paying an annual subscription to Ancestry was something that I resisted
for several years, but once I tried it, I felt like a kid in a candy
store with an empty bag and opportunity to fill it with just about
anything that was there. I have not yet harvested everything that I
would want to. I can't even keep up with all of the new info that is
being made available every day. I have little green hint leaves flying
everywhere!
Concerning receiving payment for contributions, the Jesus Christ Church
of Latter Day Saints (LDS) has collected data for decades w/o paying for
it, and Family Tree Maker solicits info that they burned on CD's and
sold.
But a big difference is that you can submit corrections to Ancestry and
they will post them. LDS does NOT have that reputation.

I once got a notification from Ancestry telling me that there was
new information on the family lines I was researching. So I paid a
fee to view this "new" information. What I found was that Ancestry
had harvested all of the information I had posted on Rootsweb.
Rootsweb ha s been purchased by Ancestry . So I paid to get my own
information. I was not happy and t hat was the last time I will
spend any money on Ancestry stuff . Ancestry did not ask my
permission nor offer me any financial reimbursment for using and
selling my information.
