Looking of for Dickey Families PA> IN> and VA> NC> IN
"Pennsylvania Roots" is the topic Tuesday, Nov. 24th in
#GenealogyForum on
Afternet IRC. Hope you can join us!
Our current schedule on #GenealogyForum runs through Dec. 1. Time to be
putting the
new one up and I would REALLY like some suggestions on this.
We had a guest last nite who suggested an evening covering definitions in
old documents and says he has a lot of resources to help with this. What do
you think??? Think it would be of benefit?
The Afternet Community channels are slowing gaining visitors. #genealogie
reports
they had eleven guests last nite and #Gen-Southern-Ohio had a good
evening also!
We now have twenty registered genealogy channels on Afternet and there
are drawing
more and more people. It seems our vision is becoming a
reality. The comradeship and fellowship in the channels is something we can
all be pleased about and the quality and quantity of genealogical resources
is growing steadily.
Scheduling for the day/time of meetings in the individual channels is
difficult to
centralize so I am listing the channels and the channel
host/hostess's email so that you can contact them directly for the day and
time that they meet. Of course, the channels are always available to meet
someone who has like interest, regardless of whether a meeting is scheduled
at a particular time that you are online. Join the channel of your choice
while you 'surf the web'. If you come by #GenealogyForum, someone can tell
you how to install a doorbell on the channel you will be in so that you can
'hear' when someone joins you.

I think most of us has at least one of the surnames that has a channel for
it. Drop
by and lend your support to the host even if you only have one
person with that surname and it is an inlaw. That individual could be the
missing link to anothers line. Success of an IRC channel is counted in
numbers.... the more people in a channel, the more likelihood of others
stopping in.
Tell a friend about our Community, then both of you tell your mailings
lists. You
can reach people whom we cannot. Give them the webpage address
for instructions on downloading mirc and join our Afternet Community and
for IRC rules of etiquette, (The Kats Page). Connections between guests are
becoming commonplace!
If you are interested in starting your own surname channel, the
registration page
for Afternet is linked to their logo on our Other IRC
Channels page.
