I agree about the problems with transcriptions. I don't think it's a
problem with Ancestry only, there are always errors with transcriptions.
I know I was looking for an ancestor named Jane LARGE, I found her listed
as Jane SURZE. I was able to find her using her first name, location and
year of birth. But, in defense of the transcriptionist, the capital "L"
DID look more like an "S" and the "a" was not closed on top, making
it
look like a ""u", and the "g" was open on the side, making it
look more
like a "z" . I know Ancestry isn't prefect, but I think they do a pretty
decent job. Of course, ALWAYS look at the original! But then, in order to
LOOK at the original, you need to FIND the original!
Hi from HOT-lanta,
I sent off for and received several death certificates for my S(i)eferman
family from Madison. Most of these were in the late 1800's.
It showed the majority of them were buried in "German Cemetery".
I have been unable to find a listing for this cemetery. Perhaps the name
has been changed?
If you can shed some light on this, I would appreciate it.
