With great sorrow, I am writing to let you know that Anne E. Allen
passed away, Monday, April 1, 2002. Many of you knew Anne by her
generosity in sharing historical articles for Jefferson County, and as a
person who was always willing to check references to further others'
genealogy search. Anne frequently wrote to me about her own ancestors
with such great pride, and rightfully so, as they were involved with the
Underground Railroad, and were brave and true people. I am sure they
also appreciate Anne's dedication to keeping their memories alive.
However, I think that Anne's ancestors are proud of her too, as am I,
for her courage, warm-heartedness, and the sincere joy she received from
helping others.
Besides doing reference checks, Anne made it possible for free access to
the online scanned images of the Jefferson County 1860 Census Records.
She shared photos of her Denny-Smart and Elliott ancestors, transcribed
the Sessional Records of Monroe Presbyterian Church, authored "A Brief
History of the Monroe Presbyterian Church," shared the "Bible Record of
John Johnson Denny and his wife, Effa Lauretta Haines Denny from
Jefferson County Indiana." Anne's last project that she was unable to
complete was a transcription of the 1860 census.
Most importantly Anne was a wife, mother, daughter, and a friend. I
think of those closest to her, and pray that they will be comforted by
the warm memories she left behind, and by one another. For me, Anne was
an encouraging and positive force in my life. She will be greatly
missed, but will remain an inspiration. If you want to send a card of
condolence to the family, you may write to me for their address.
