Oh! I have a feeling we may not be related. My earliest Porter is
George C. Porter b. ca 1800 in VA m. Sarah Wilson 10/2/1832 in Bourbon
Co KY. Then he moved to Carroll co KY sometime by 1850/60 where his son
Charles "Carter" (I don't know if his name is Carter Charles or Charles
Carter Porter) married eliza Bishop 12/22/1864. they (Charles and
Eliza) had 4 children, James b. 7/23/1866 d. 8/11/1950, Sarah "Sallie"
b. 6/1869 d. 2/1885 , George b.1870 d. ?, and Mary E. b. 1875 d. ?.
James is my great grandfather. We think his wife Mary Alice Taylor died
in childbirth in 1900 because his two sons, Daniel and George (b. 1893 &
1989) were sent to Mary's sister (who lived in Madison IN) to be
raised. james never remarried. For some reason the oldest son, Daniel
hated his father. My dad said his father (George) never said why his
uncle Danny didn't like their father. This is one family mystery I sure
wish I could uncover! If any of this seems a little familiar to you I'd
love to see more. Daniel L. Porter b. 9/13/1993 d. 2/16/1964 and is
buried in St. Patricks Cemetery in Madison (with his wife and son
Martin). George W. Porter b. 8/8/1898 d. 11/28/1937 (of ruptured
appendix) and is buried in Springdale Cemetery with his aunt Kate and
Uncle Jack Davis. My father is one of three children b. to George W.
Porter and Eva Alma Jenkins.

Have been subscribing for quite a while, and this is the first time I have
seen anyone researching a Porter in Jefferson Co, IN. Finally!!!! My line is
from Aaron PORTER b. ca 1780 in NY married Lavinia CHAPMAN b. 1785 in NY.
They had children - James b. ca 1805 NY; Exa b. 1807 NY; Hosea B. b. ca 1810
NY; JOHN J. (mine) b. 1818 IN; Minerva b. 1820 IN; and Nicholas b. ca 1825
IN (I believe that Nicholas belongs with this family, but no proof yet)
Have found what I feel is their family in the 1810 & 1820 IN census.
I pick them up again in 1830 census in Cedar Co., Iowa. Also in the Cedar
Co., Iowa History book. JOHN J. married Margaret MATTER 1858 in Iowa. They
had 6 ch. John L., William H. (mine); George W.; Mary Ellen; Margrette; and
Harry E.
I would be thrilled to find someone who ties in with mine. I am willing to
exchange any information either on the list or directly.
