Since a couple of inquiries have been made. There are no official death
records in Indiana before 1882 and Jefferson Co. was not one of the better
ones about getting people to file before 1900.
Someone has pointed out the Vail's undertakers records. These general provide
little more than the name and date, although sometime's it will list so and
so's child or Mrs. so and so.
The best bets are probate records. Some churches also record deaths of
members, but among the Baptists I find those to be pretty spotty. I can't
speak for other denominations because I haven't examined too many of those.
