There is an online data base that can be searched. The initial one I had no
problem with but this is direct off the site so is better yet. I would
believe that from the time it was published in RootsWeb Review there was some
adjusting.
Remember that the original post I made they reported that if the records were
not found here they could be at the city clerk, local library or historic
society.
At least that gives you places to check on and not a dead end.

Sorry for any inconvience with the previous post I sent.

Dear List:
The link given for the Directory of Morticians is invalid. Is there a correct
address for the funeral directors?
Thanks,

Subject: [INJEFFER] Funeral Homes

The only funeral home that I am know for sure in Madison that has surviving
records is Vail (modern Vail-Holt). Its records for the nineteenth century
(and maybe for the early 20th) were transcribed by the DAR and are in
published form at the Madison library. The other funeral home, Lytle Gans
Andrew, was formed with the merger of Lytle and Gans in the last decade or
so. I don't think either Lytle or Gans had that long a history, compared to
Vail.
I think the mortician link is kind of clunky. It was able to plug in the
words "Indiana Funera Homes" into my favorite search engine and it gave me a
link to the Indiana Funeral Home and Preplanning directory that gave me a
nicely design page with listings of existing funeral homes alphabetically by
city and funeral home.
