I am searching for my Beck Family that lived in Davie Co., as early as 1836.
My Civil War grandfather was born there in 1836. Apparently, they didn't
own land and there is no record of them living there.
My Winfield Scott Beck's service records clearly spell out Davie County NC
as his place of nativity. He is found next in Jefferson Co., Indiana where
he married in 1856 to Elizabeth Ann Brown. He's found again on the Indiana
1860 Census and had two children: Mary Alice and Oren Winfield Beck, before
he enlisted in Oct. of 1862, and died January 1863.
He was taken POW to Montgomery AL and later interred at the Marietta
National Cem., in Marietta GA.
He just didn't live long enough to leave a paper trail. I haven't learned
who his parents or siblings were. I would love to find someone researching
or has ties to this family.
A male cousin has submitted to the Sorensen DNA web site.
