Hello All,
My wonderful husband, Brad has created a discussion board,
where we can discuss particular topics on Jefferson County.
I have added two topics, but if you would like to have
other topics added, just email me and I will add them.
The topic page is at:
http://www.myindianahome.net/discus/messages/14/15.html
Your message can be in the form of a query or of factual
content or whatever pleases you. It just needs to be
about the topic you are under.
The topics I have added are Jefferson County Civil War
soldiers, which many are interested in. The other topic
is about Jefferson County's Business and Industry.
Since there was a question about the button factory
recently, I added a message about that to this section.
I think I got carried away with the length of it
however. Ha. -sorry, I will condense it later.
Also this week, I went to the Historical Society to
see what may be available for "you all."
(This is where I was:
http://www.seidata.com/~jchs/research.htm)
Ron Grimes who takes care of the historical society's
records has allowed me to publish on the Jefferson
County INGenWeb site, their Burial and Death Records.
These records are sporadic and are between 1879 - 1905.
There are a few thousand names. To make these records
complete, as far as what is available, I volunteered
to extract the names and death dates from the records
they had not had time to do, which there were about 800
in number. I completed that this week, and will
as soon as possible place it on the web site.
When it is posted, it would be great if you could write
to Ron and thank him for allowing us access to these
records. You can write to him through the Jefferson
County Historical Society at
jchs(a)seidata.com
Attention: Ron Grimes
I want him to know how many of you there are, who are
interested in Jefferson County History and Genealogy
and how much we appreciate the historical society's
generosity in sharing these records.
I must apologize to those people whom I have not had an
opportunity to write back to in regards to their queries,
I simply have not had the time. But, if you would be
patient with me, I think you will be happy with the
upcoming additions to the Jefferson County web site.
Now, the most important part of this message. I need
some volunteers to help with transcribing some records.
I will send you copies of records/information and you
can email the transcription back to me in plain text.
I will add the html to it and place it on the Jeff. Co.
web site. If old-time hand writing looks Greek to you,
this might not be your area to help. Ha Ha. Or you might
want to request some typed records that need transcribed.
I have a few volunteers already, but need more. If you are
interested, send me a message with your snail mail
address and "Volunteer" in the subject box. I will
of course, give you credit as the transcriptionist
on the web site.
Well, I have talked your ear off enough...
Sincerely,
Ruth Hoggatt
