Don,
Ancestry.com and the roster at the Jefferson Co., IN GenWeb homepage have him listed as
Nashville Courtnay, not Cortnay. Maybe this spelling will help in your search. Also, I
wanted to let you know that Jefferson Co., IN is not directly across from Louisville, KY.
Clark Co., IN is directly across the Ohio River from Louisville, KY. Madison, Jefferson
Co., IN (County seat) is about 55 mi NE of Louisville, KY. Milton, KY is directly across
the Ohio River from Madison, Jefferson Co., IN. I thought you might
like this info for your records and/or research.
I checked the sources I have and could not find any further info for you. Will let you
know if I find anything else.

My Great Granduncle Nashville Coatney (spelled Cortnay in the roster)
enlisted as a private in the 13th. Indiana Infantry Company D on 6/19/1861. His residence
was Jefferson County,Indiana (directly across from Louisville,KY area). He mustered out on
7/1/1864, no place stated.
Last information I have on him is he was in a battle May 9-10, 1864 I believe at Swift
Creek (state of Virginia). Per a letter from one of his comrades named Albert Meranda, he
was either wounded and left in the field or he was captured by the Rebel Army and taken
prisoner. Nashville did not return home after the war. The packet of information I
received from the National Archives offered no clues as to his demise. Any information on
his actual whereabouts (burial location) will be appreciated. Don Coatney
