Can you please forward the timeline when J.R. Gorgas, Photographer, was
in business.
Joseph R. Gorgas -born 2/7/1828 died 4/6/1903
Came to Madison with Irby Smith to clerk in Smith's dry goods store about
1853. In the early days he was associated in daguerrotypic business with
Paul Dewey and succeeded to full control of the business a little later.
He is listed in 1859 directory as sole proprietor of a Daguerrean Saloon at
Main Cross and West Sts. 1867 in association with Oliver Mulvey at 20 1/2
Main Cross. 1872 sole proprietor of photgraphy gallery. He sold out to
George L. Spalding shortly before his death.
