Baptists do not believe in infant baptism. Church records probably do not
contain the names of the children unless you can find old Sunday School records
or if any of the children became old enough to make a profession of faith and
seek baptism for themselves while they lived in Madison.
I grew up in the Brooksburg Baptist Church in Jefferson County and my momma was
the official record keeper for many years. **Those records from our church were
kept in our home :)

My gggrandparents, Milton and Mary Sturges Ayers, were living in
Madison, IN
in 1850. They probably gave birth to a few of their 11 children while they
were living there. They had an affiliation with a Baptist Church in
Greensburg, IN, where they were married, so I imagine they were of that
denomination while living in Madison. Does anyone know the names of Baptist
Churches in Madison in the 1850s? That would probably be where the only
record of these births would be. The children's names were: Adeline b. 1843,
Emily Virginia b. 1845, Sarah Alice b. 1847, John Milton b. 1849, Winfield
Scott b. 1852, Mary Belle b. 1854, Ann Florence b. 1855, Charlotte b. 1857,
Harriett b. 1859, Lewella b. 1864, Lewis Walter b. 1865. They were in
Indianapolis by the 1870 census. Any help or direction will be appreciated.
