Hi all,
I'm new to the group. Spent hours last night checking all the great things
on the site. I did see all the entries of items for the Giesler/Geisler
families. Helped to fill in a lot of info and to find members in the
census records.
We have a Johann Baptiste Giesler who came from Oberschopfheim, Germany
around 1852 to Madison. We are wondering if anyone does lookups for
newspapers for 1856 and could look up around the date of 7 Sep 1856 when
Johann Baptiste Giesler died in an accident with a runaway wagon where he
saved some people's lives.
We have two questions we are trying to get answered. His wife was Maria
Katharina Fischer. We believed she died in Oberschopfheim on 28 Nov 1852
and is buried there. But, a few years ago a researcher told a relative
that he had seen Johann and Maria in a US census record. Of course, at the
time, he couldn't find this information, but was positive of what he had
seen. Since Johann died in 1856, that would only be the 1850 census, but
again, is before we suspect he even came to America. We think he came with
his son Valentine Giesler in 1852.
The second question is, who is George Giesler that he is buried with him at
St Patrick's Cemetery? George was born in 1806, but Johann was not married
to Maria until 1813. Not that he couldn't have been married before, but we
found no record of it in the Oberschopfheim records through the LDS church.
Any help gladly appreciated. I would, of course, pay anyone who could
check the newspapers for me or if someone could direct us to how we could
get access if we don't live there.
Thanking you in advance.
