Hi Marilyn. The Jay County marriage records show that Mrs. Mary Ann
Haviland married Joel Bailey 10 Oct. 1865. So, assuming her first husband
died, and they didn't divorce (and that would be my assumption since her
second marriage refers to her as "Mrs"), then he must have died before 1865.
Something else to check out. The Jay County probate index shows a John J.
Haviland whose estate was probated in 1864. The time frame certainly fits
as a very possible first husband of Mary Ann. I would highly recommend
checking out that probate file.

Can anyone help me identify the first spouse of Mary A. Bailey, below, and
the father of her children, Miranda and George Heavland? He died sometime
between 1863 and 1868. I don't know his name. Any help would be
appreciated.
thank you
